Summer Game Fest 2026 in Los Angeles just brought some massive news for MMO fans. Developer and publisher NCSOFT took the stage on June 5 to drop a highly anticipated announcement: their next-generation open-world MMORPG, AION 2, is officially locked in for a global release this September.

The game originally launched late last year in South Korea and Taiwan, leaving Western communities eager for news of a localization pipeline. For those looking to hop in on day one, the release structure is straightforward. The global version is skipping consoles for now and will launch strictly on PC. It will be accessible via Steam as well as NC's proprietary PURPLE launcher.

To ensure a smooth experience for the global community, servers will be strategically distributed across four major regions: North America, South America, Europe, and Asia. NCSOFT is also investing heavily in full localization support, offering 10 distinct languages right out of the gate, including English, German, French, and Spanish.

There is also a noticeable shift in how NC is approaching the global market this time around. In an effort to strengthen user retention and avoid some of the common pitfalls that Asian MMORPG imports face in the West, they have brought on former Amazon Games executive Mervin Lee Kwai to head up the Western publishing strategy. It's a smart operational move that shows they are genuinely serious about making the game stick in these regions over the long haul.
